This surprises people. If you are on a time of use tariff, a battery charged at the cheap overnight rate and discharged through the expensive evening peak can pay back faster than panels, and it works in January when panels do not.
If you already have solar, a battery stops you exporting for pennies and buying it back at four times the price a few hours later.
The 2026 update to the wiring regulations added a chapter covering stationary secondary batteries. It means there is now a clear standard for the installation to be certified against, rather than an argument about which guidance applied. Everything we fit is done to it.
